Creative Nature & Limerick's Buzzing
Workshops, garden and wildlife shelter installation. Collaborative Limerick City of Culture Project with Ekotree, Limerick, Ireland. 2014.
Limerick City was Ireland First National City of Culture in 2014. One project to emerge from this was the Creative Nature Urban Biodiversity Garden. The creation of this public space involved working with a horticulturist, a street artist, other local artists, and private landowners to create a new wildlife-friendly public space for the city to hold public events and outdoor exhibitions. The Garden was populated with native Irish trees and wildflowers and filled with a collection of birdhouses and insect shelters made from found and salvaged materials.
Limerick's Buzzing was a project initiated by entomologist Dr. Veronica Santorum in relation to declining bumble bee populations and the loss of biodiversity in insects. As a collaborator on this project, we devised and delivered workshops with schools and youth groups, street art installations, public information events, and urban nature walks while working with professionals and diverse community groups within the public space to promote stewardship of urban biodiversity.
