Wildroutes Project
Durational, trans-disciplinary, socially engaged, eco-art project. Limerick, Ireland. 2011 – 2015.
The Wildroutes Project was a participatory eco-art project creating awareness of biodiversity and promoting stewardship of urban ecology in Limerick city. This grew into a multi-faceted long-term participatory project where activities included guerrilla gardening, seedbomb making and dispersal, public interventions, green graffiti, litter picking, mapping, and public workshops.
This project started as my MA SPACE final project and continued for four years.
The aim of the project was not only to raise awareness of and create a dialogue regarding urbanism and biodiversity, but to actively encourage and empower users of the city spaces to positively alter their everyday routes through the city through small interventions. The long-term goal of the Wildroutes Project is to encourage empathy and promote stewardship of the city’s natural ecological populations.
One major element of the project was a seedbombing campaign which saw over 2,000 seedbombs collectively made and distributed throughout the city by over 50 participants. The effect of this can still be seen in the city today.
